Abstract

This article considers environmental aspects of using hardware and software systems (HSS) in the educational process. The advantages of digital technologies are analyzed, including reduced consumption of physical resources, reduced carbon dioxide emissions, and reduced costs of producing educational materials. Potential disadvantages, such as increased e-waste, dependence on digital infrastructure, and cyber security threats, are also discussed. The study used quantitative metrics such as paper consumption volume, energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. The cases presented on the basis of the LCA and Scope 2/3 methods demonstrate the compliance of digital transformation with the Sustainable Development Goals. The results prove that digital solutions can reduce the impact on the environment and optimize organizational costs. Examples of successful implementation of HSS in various countries and prospects for their further development, including the use of artificial intelligence and virtual reality in education, are presented. Particular attention is paid to issues of sustainable education and possible measures to minimize the negative consequences of digitalization. The article presents the main results of the research under the IRN program № BR 218008/0223 “Justification and development of a hardware and software complex for training practical work of specialists in the filed of radio engineering and radio navigation in military affairs by introducing immersive technologies into the educational process” (source of funding Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Education)
