Abstract

This paper presents a review of modern approaches to the application of dynamic chaotic functions in cryptography. The main properties of chaotic systems that enable their use for information protection, including sensitivity to initial conditions, ergodicity, nonlinearity, and pseudorandomness, are considered. An analysis of existing applications of chaotic maps in cryptographic algorithms is carried out, including pseudorandom sequence generation, symmetric encryption, image protection, and lightweight cryptography for Internet of Things devices. The main advantages and limitations of chaos-based cryptosystems are identified, and the prospects for their further development in the era of post-quantum computing are discussed.
