The article discusses the theoretical foundations of the essence and content of a special military operation as a type of use of the Armed Forces in modern conditions. The analysis of changes in the nature of armed conflicts and factors affecting the organization and conduct of Special Operations was carried out. Particular attention is paid to the integrated use of forces and Means, interspecies interaction, as well as the introduction of modern technologies of armed struggle. The impact of robotic complexes and unmanned systems on changes in the methods of conducting operational operations is considered. Based on the analysis of the scientific work of Kazakhstani and foreign researchers, the main problematic aspects of the use of troops in special operations were identified. The need to improve theoretical approaches to planning and conducting special military operations, as well as adapt the system of preparing troops to the current state of armed struggle, is substantiated.
