The article addresses the pressing issues of improving the camouflage and protection of troops under conditions of the massive use of precision-guided weapons and modern aerial, space and unmanned reconnaissance assets. It is substantiated that the experience of contemporary armed conflicts has fundamentally changed the requirements for ensuring troop survivability: the reduction of time from the detection of an object to its engagement makes timely target acquisition virtually equivalent to its destruction. The author reveals the composition of the modern reconnaissance-strike complex, analyses the physical fields by which objects are detected, and systematizes the directions of countermeasures - optical, thermal, radar and electronic camouflage. Particular attention is paid to the integrated use of standard and improvised camouflage means, reducing signatures across the entire spectrum, dispersion and fortification of positions, as well as the use of decoys and electronic warfare. Based on the study of foreign experience and current trends, practical recommendations for improving the camouflage and protection system of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan are formulated. The research findings may be applied in military-scientific activities, troop combat training and the educational process of military institutions.
